The Oval Office in the West Wing as modeled based on The Blue Room. This room has the most famous furniture in the White House. The Oval Office in the West Wing where our nation’s President Barack Obama works today, was inspired by the Blue Room. Guests whom are invited to the White House are given the opportunity to sit in the famous blue room covered Bellange chairs and sofa purchased in France in 1817. President Monroe hand seleted these items three years after the British burned the White House. In 1860 the chairs and sofa were sold in auction by President James Buchanan and not until 100 years later First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy went on a treasure hunt and brought back to the White House the same furniture that was auctioned off.
