Owner: UCSF Architect: Rafael Vinoly, New York, NY. Structural Engineer: Nabih Youssef and Associates, Los Angeles, CA. MEP Engineer: Flack+Kutz, Inc. San Francisco, CA. Contractor: Hunt Construction, San Francisco, CA.
The BIM Process
This was UCSF’s first attempt in implementing BIM on this new Medical Campus. BIM was not a requirement when the bid was awarded to Hunt Construction . Hunt Construction contracted View By View to provide BIM MEPF construction coordination services. View By View acted as a BIM integrator/facilitator, running 3D MEPF coordination meetings weekly. We played an important role in interfacing between UCSF, the design team and the contractors. We provided supplemental 3D modeling and coordination for the animal bedding disposal system, the telcom/data and other lab equipment services. We updated the architects 3D model as needed and remodeled the concrete structure. We also provided 3D modeling and coordination services for the underground utilities around Hellen Diller and between Hellen Diller and the CVRI building.
